Launch day for Tricia Jones and ‘Bull at the Gate’
14 October 2011 and for one of our loveahappyending.com featured Author Tricia Jones, it is the day that ‘Bull at the Gate’ is published by The Wild Rose Press!
So over to Tricia to tell us all about her new book!
“While always excited about the release of a new book, Bull at the Gate, which is released today, is extra special to me. It sees the end of a sort of hiatus in my writing life, due mostly to major changes at the day job and exciting new personal commitments.
While I love my day job working with adults with learning difficulties, recent funding changes have necessitated a change of employer with all the implications and difficulties that involves. It’s sucked my writing energy and curtailed the creative juices. What’s made it all worthwhile has been the students themselves who never cease to make me laugh, cry and think. Every one of them is a real personality and what you see is what you get. If they don’t like what I’m wearing they’ll tell me; if they don’t want to work that day nothing on earth will shift them; if they want to work they’ll work my socks off. I love them all with a passion.
At home, we’ve recently become Puppy Walkers for Guide Dogs, which is a bit of a misnomer because the pups arrive at six weeks and live with us for about a year. We do basic obedience and socialisation training. Our first pup, Zorro, arrived in July and he’s an absolute delight. Not that it’s been all plain sailing as he’s pretty challenging, but we love and adore him. He was particularly entertaining when we took him for his first supermarket visit and charmed the staff and customers with his big eyes and cheeky ways. His arrival has, however, eaten into my writing time. It’s hard to resist him and when he wants to play I’m happy to oblige. Are you surprised that he’ll find his way into one of my future books?
I’ve missed my daily writing schedule, but I’ve set some pretty challenging writing goals as we move into autumn. So it’s butt in the chair and fingers on the keyboard time for me. Here’s hoping!”
It’s lovely to catch up with you Tricia, and Zorro is just the cutest of pups - so good luck with that writing schedule! So now let’s find out a little more about ‘Bull at the Gate’……
Alexander “Bull” McKinley’s reputation as a hard-nosed businessman is tested when an old Fairy Gate and local superstition stand in the way of a lucrative development contract. Alex has his hands full trying to convince the villagers to play ball, without the unexpected—and definitely unwanted—attraction to the feisty redhead leading the revolt.
Dee Ashman detests those who put profit before people, and she’s damned if an arrogant, insensitive and, okay, wildly attractive capitalist is going to destroy the symbolic heart of the village and break her beloved grandmother’s heart.
But they cannot deny the desire that burns between them nor the unleashed passion neither can resist.
And just to whet your appetite, here’s an extract from this wonderfully passionate, and romantic, novel……
Excerpt from Bull at the Gate:-
He moved even closer to let people pass. Dee had the distinct, and unsettling, impression he was doing it on purpose. “So where’s your drinking partner?”
Hoping to see Cassie heading out, Dee glanced back down the corridor. “Temporarily stood me up on account of a sun room. She needs planning permission and wanted to grab Richard.”
He nodded. Something about the intensity in those indigo eyes, framed so tantalizingly by the slash of straight, dark brows, shot a strange little quiver through her solar plexus.
“So, what do you do when you’re not objecting at meetings?”
“I run a shop here in the village. One that no doubt can expect to prosper under your new development plans.”
“What do you sell? Venom tipped arrows?”
“Amongst other things. Greetings cards, crystals, candles, books. I even stock tiny replicas of the Fairy Gate. Perhaps you’d like to call in and buy one before you tear it down forever. A little keepsake.”
His eyes narrowed. “Okay, I get the picture. You’re well and truly in the anti-camp.”
“Demolishing the Fairy Gate? I’m head of the anti camp.” And she hadn’t been more aware of that fact until he’d stood in front of her doing weird things to her equilibrium and threatening to destroy her grandmother’s memories.
“Into saving old monuments, are you?”
“It beats going around the country destroying them.”
His nostrils flared. “I’m not destroying the bloody thing. I’ve agreed to help move it.”
“Here’s a bit of news for you. It’s not yours to move.”
“Actually it is. I own that land.”
